Antique Chinese famille rose Dragon and Phoenix cup / bowl, Late Qing Dynasty

This product is not longer available.

A very beautiful and detailed decorated Dragon & Phoenix cup / bowl. I estimate the bowl being from the end of the Qing Dynasty, probably Guangxu period. The cup is decorated with Phoenix which represents the empress and Dragon which represents the emperor, in the middle is the flying pearl.

The bowl appears to originally had a reign mark at the base but it has been removed. This can be seen as the bowl is missing glaze at the bottom center where the reign mark usually is written. (From history we know that during political unrest people have been known to remove marks on their bowl for various reasons, for example during the cultural revolution in China people did not want the red guards to see bowls with marks as they would be a trace from the feudal past. There is also known that during unrest in Indonesia between ethnical Chinese and locals, people removed the Chinese characters on their porcelain to avoid troubles )

Note: Wooden stand is not included in this sale!
