Chinese antique platter in underglazed blue and white, 18th c #2695
A Fine and Rare Blue and White 'Three Friends of Winter and Three Auspicious Beasts' Export Scalloped Platter
Period: Qing Dynasty, Qianlong Period (Mid-to-late 18th Century)
Workmanship: An exceptionally rare piece of fine draftsmanship among Chinese export porcelain. Departing from the hurried brushwork of mass-produced export wares, this platter features meticulously detailed and vigorous brushlines. It represents a high-end bespoke commission destined for the topmost tier of the European aristocracy. This meticulous "world-within-a-world" decoration reflects the opulent Rococo aesthetic highly favored in 18th-century Europe.
Paste and Cobalt: Lard-white paste with radiant cobalt blue. The porcelain body is remarkably bright, dense, and lustrous. The underglaze blue is vivid and intense, showing a brilliant violet undertone with excellent tonal gradations—a perfect testament to the superior material selection of the Qianlong golden age.
Condition:
Check with UV light. One minor retouched nick to the rim. Glaze fritting's to the rim. General wear, scratches. Manufacturing flaws.
